It’s All About the Little Things. By Tammi Enkey.
Recently I returned home for a week to North Carolina to attend my grandfather’s funeral. During that week I had multiple opportunities to return down memory lane fondly remembering my many memories that I have with my grandparents in North Carolina. I thought about the many lessons that I have learned from these wonderful role models and one particular lesson stood out the most. That lesson is that happiness in life can be found in all of the little things.
My grandfather was a farmer. He and my grandmother had ten kids. They didn’t make much financially. They didn’t have much materially. They lived thriftily. But they were happy, truly happy. They found joy in simple things.
They loved watching the sun set over the farm, to watch the ducks on the pond, to work in the garden. They loved watching their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren learn and grow. They loved gathering with family around the piano and singing. They loved going to town once a week for errands and a frosty. These are just a few of the little things that they found joy in.
We can all learn a lesson from this. Happiness in life doesn’t depend on how much money we make or if we’re “keeping up with the Jones’.” It doesn’t depend on our standing in the community or how much education we have. Happiness is a choice. We can choose to be happy and content. We can choose to find joy in the little things in life. It’s all about the little things.
